History (Garside & Hoy)

Garside & Hoy was established by John B Hoy in Harrow in 1952.

Under his 40-year leadership the firm flourished, building an extensive and loyal clientbase across London who recognised and valued the expertise and dedication to family law.

Bernadette Hoy joined this, her family’s firm, in 1996 two years before John retired. In 2004 she invited Julia Newland to join her to extend the range of services the firm could offer clients. Julia remained with the firm until her retirement in 2019.

As Bernadette explains: the firm’s decision to merge with EM Collins and form Collins & Hoy will only enable further growth and an opportunity to continue to deepen our knowledge in our chosen areas of law:

“Giving our clients the best possible service while staying right up-to-date with legal developments in family, probate and property law remains at the heart of our practice. Having more people, a more diverse range of legal specialisms and a wider reach will only make sure we do that better.”

Bernadette welcomed the opportunity for Collins & Hoy to merge with Karina Leapman & Co in 2022.
